Description

In the first days when our Jamaican friends began experiencing Hurricane Melissa’s eye on the South Coast, the strongest storm in history in the Atlantic Basin, SeaVibe Foundation’s Artist Circle painted positive vibes and prayers for our friends through these brush strokes of Jamaica’s precious wildlife. The Doctor Bird, Jamaica’s National Bird, an endemic Swallowtail with the largest wingspan of any butterfly on Earth; Lignum Vitae, the National Flower; and Ackee, the National Fruit, as all flora and fauna faced the storm alongside their human neighbors. These papers absorbed tears of thought that transformed the paint into colorful images in hopes of raising relief funds that could help schools recover.
Jamaica has given so much to the world in culture, music, friendship, art, and more, so these artists are donating ALL PROFITS from your purchase of original art, prints, notecards, postcards, mugs, aprons, bags, and other products of the Jamaican Wildlife Series sold here at seavibe.org.
The colorful characteristics of resilient flora and fauna mirror the strength, resilience, charm, and positivity of the Jamaican culture… as strong as the lignum vitae, as colorful as the endemic birds and butterflies, as simple as the sunrise each day.
All profits will be donated to American Friends of Jamaica (Breds Foundation), who committed $1Million in matching funds. SeaVibe worked with Bred’s in the past on youth education and all funds donated go directly toward local community needs, from clean drinking water and meals, to materials that help local fishermen, farmers, and schools revive and thrive.
Fishermen working with Bred’s Foundation have been busy using their boats to deliver relief and aid to communities not accessible by road, reconstructing sustainable fishing traps for local fishermen who lost everything, providing seeds to farmers to replant, and materials to rebuild stronger than ever.
